PhoneArena - Editing, writing, strategy

The job

As one of the world's most visited mobile tech websites, PhoneArena produces a huge amount of content every day. From reviews and editorials to spec updates and polls, they position themselves as the definitive destination for all things mobile.

I was brought in as Head of Affiliate Content with the aim to increase the quality of the content to attract more readers, who in turn would then be exposed to more affiliate links with the ultimate goal of bringing in more revenue for the company.

The process

As head of affiliate content, I not only needed to maintain high quality content, but to identify new areas as well. Working with a team of writers, I would routinely edit their work, assign new articles based on current trends, and ensure that all affiliate opportunities were clear throughout the content.

Part of this job was to create a highly complex content strategy and schedule that would identify evergreen topics to be regularly updated, as well as reactive news pieces, and on-trend topics.

In times of heavy content requirements, I would jump in with the writers to help create content, especially around major device launches.

The outcome

With my guidance and leadership, the volume and quality of articles, reviews, and editorials increased, which in turn increased website traffic, and ultimately, affiliate link clicks.

During my time at PhoneArena, there was an increase in overall revenue made from affiliate links, and my long-term strategy around content production (both evergreen and reactive) set a new standard within the company and made the overall pipeline of writing more efficient and less stressful.
